The SMB (Subminiature B version) connector is a coaxial RF connector developed in the 1960s. SMB connectors are smaller than SMA connectors. They feature snap-on coupling and offer 50 Ω or 75 Ω impedance. They provide excellent electrical performance from DC to 4 GHz.
SMB connectors are available in straight or right-angle versions, as well as bulkhead, 2-hole panel, 4-hole panel, or no mounting options. These SMB connector designs include clamp/solder, crimp/solder, or solder connection methods.
SMB subminiature coaxial connectors are suitable for a variety of applications up to 4 GHz. The snap-lock mechanism provides a fast and reliable connection for high packing density applications. These versatile connectors can be used for internal devices and cable assemblies.
The SMB connector is used in applications where a quick mating sub-miniature RF connector is required for RF frequencies up to frequencies of a few GHz. The SMB connector derives its name as it is termed a Sub-Miniature version B connector.
SMB have a gold-plated center and outer contact and are suited to applications in all industries. In common with the similar screw-coupled SMC series, the center contacts of SMB are reversed when compared with the larger SMA, with the plug having the female contact.
