Introduction to RF Cable

RF cable, also known as radio frequency cable, is a type of coaxial cable that is used to transmit radio frequency signals.RF cable is characterized by its ability to transmit high-frequency signals with minimal signal loss and interference.

It is constructed with a center conductor, an insulating layer, a braided or foil shield, and an outer jacket. The different components of the cable are designed to provide maximum signal integrity and protect the signal from external interference.

RF Cable Assemblies

RF Cable Assemblies Series

RF cables are cables used to transmit radio frequency signals. These signals can be used for various purposes, such as transmitting audio and video signals or communicating data transmission.

RF Cable Assembly Suitable Cable

For example, if the assembly will be used in a high-power RF application, a cable with low loss and high power handling capabilities will be required. In this case, a cable made from materials such as copper or silver-plated copper may be suitable.

Applications

  • Radio communication systems
  • Aerospace industry for accurate communication equipments
  • Military and space application
  • Ships and navy communication systems
  • Satellite communications

This is a review of the 100ft coax. Many complaints were regarding the soldering of the center pin of the PL259. Pic's are on the ends of the coax I received. Not the best, I've done worse but I don't sell to others. For the price I am not complaining. I will heat up the centers to ensure the solder is not just at the tip and flows along the pin.

A basic continuity check showed no shorts between the center and shield. If I run into issues during use, I will update this review.

No complaints, it works well, connects my radio to the antenna and gets assembled and taken down with each use. So far no problems with it and it's been about a month of use. Electrically it's good.

Throughout my ham radio HF experience, I have heard that Times Microwave LMR 400 (Standard) was the best, without a doubt. Well I discovered that the LMR 400 had a higher SWR than this coax. I wrapped the LMR 400 and put it back in the box.

This isn't high dollar cable, but it works fine for what it is. There's a lot of one star reviews by folks who evidently don't understand the basics of RF operation. You should ALWAYS have means to check and monitor your SWR/reflected power during operation. Numerous people here evidently just connected right up to an antenna, assuming everything was up to snuff. Whether you're using $30 or $200 cable, always check your SWR. If you fry a transceiver and didn't check/monitor SWR, you're just as much to blame for negligent operation as the cable is.

I am always skeptical about cables with presoldered PL259 connectors, but these appear to be reasonably well done. The cable itself is fine, and appears free of defect.

Needed to replace some RG58 coax that was going to my folded dipole antenna used in my ham shack so I got this. Overall the cable seems fine, but I am not convinced that the length was correct. While I did not measure it, other 50 foot cables that make a very similar run tend to have a good 10-15 feet of extra length, so either this was short or the others were long, so this just made the run with very little to spare.

I'm very satisfied with the choice I made buying these for my CB. The only thing I did different was buy high grade heat shrink. These cables will be exposed to the elements in the state I live in. I placed heat shrink over the entire cable from end to end, not just the part that will be exposed. Let's see how winter goes.

This coax arrived undamaged and ready to use. I was expecting something a little more like an RG8, but the thickness is more like RG58. I've not done any specific testing except to hook up an antenna and transmit. The SWR is as expected and I'm hitting local repeaters on UHF and VHF. In my opinion that's a pass.

I've bought several rolls of this over the past 2 years. Always feedline for smaller projects like tape measure Yagi antennas or roll up J-pole antennas. Usually length is cut to 5 feet and at that short of length it works very well on UHF/VHF with these small projects.

This cable is easy to handle and made the installation of my attic antenna a cinch. So far, I have used my radio's diagnosis to check my antenna and it is a match, so the coax works. I will add more when I do an SWR check, but I am happy with the cable.

For station or even QRP rigs, this is great coax cable. I'm really surprised how little loss this is for 50ft. Granted, it does seem to dip at around the ham/CB bands, but it's not too bad. Even if you lose a few watts, it will hardly be noticeable during operation. This coax is also very loose and flexible to store in a backpack.

I don't know what the technical differences are between LMR400 and KMR400, but this works just as well as the former while costing 10% less. My GMRS radio only loses about 1/2 watt over 25 feet. It's a bit stiff but so is LMR400.
