What is the SP Connector?

Definition of the SP connector

The SP11, SP13, SP17, SP21 and SP29 series are IP68 waterproof connectors with threaded connections.

They have the same electrical specifications as the SY series and are designed for waterproof, indoor and outdoor applications, as well as underwater harsh environments.

It is designed for applications that require quick locking and frequent mating and unplugging. These connectors can be used for cable-to-cable and cable-to-panel mount connections.

Each side can be made into male or female contacts (plug or socket versions). Cable connectors and panel connectors are currently available with IP68 sealing caps. Threaded coupling connectors have IP68 integrity when mated for reliable operation indoors, outdoors, and in harsh environments with UV light and moisture.

Generally, the environmental testing criteria performed during the design and qualification of IP68 connectors is IP68 to a depth of 2 meters and a duration of 24 hours.

Structure of SP connector

Using a combination of dual O ring sealing, high temperature PPS inserts, and compression nuts, all insulator and contact areas in these connectors are fully sealed against environmental elements. The dual “O” rings (see below picture) mean that the integral backshell can be easily removed to allow accurate soldering of the incoming cable. Plug and receptacle housings are keyed to ensure correct polarisation and tactile feedback when mating.

Unlike many competitors’ products all the SP11 to SP29 connectors have the option of male or female contacts in any body shell; plus the ability to join cables with cable-end plug and in-line receptacle models.

Main structure:

The internal structure of the product socket can be mainly divided into Retaining nut, Insert, Panel connector shell, O Ring and Contact

Plug structure can be divided into Locking nut, Insert, Back shell, Compression nut, O ring, Contact and Rubber ring.

Connector end caps are available on request to enable IP68 integrity when male and female connectors are paired, or when IP68 end caps replace paired connectors.

To prevent a reduction in the IP68 protection class, ensure the protection class not only of the connector, but also of the entire device. Ensure that the cable complies with the specified clamping diameter of the cable gland. Ensure that the built-in O-rings are correctly seated and that the connector (in two parts) is screwed together correctly and tightly.

The connectors are designed for a service life of at least 500 insertions and withdrawals and are suitable for cable diameters from 3 to 12 mm.

Different types of SP connector

The SP11 is the smallest IP68 waterproof connector with a plastic housing, this miniature connector is one of the most popular outdoor waterproof connectors.

SP13 Circular Connectors are compact and precise in design, making them ideal for applications where space is at a premium. With its rugged materials, the SP13 connector helps your application efficiently transmit power, data and signals in any harsh environment.Each side of the SP13 connector can be a male or female contact, making it very convenient for all devices to be connected.

SP17 waterproof connector size belongs to the medium size, and sp11, sp13 appearance of the same classification. Mainly can be divided into: Cable Connector, In-line Cable Connector and Rear-nut Mount.

The SP21 waterproof connector is an IP68 waterproof cable connector with a threaded fitting. This IP68 connector is extremely robust and designed for any harsh environment, both indoors and outdoors.The SP21 connector's threaded connector features quick locking and easy operation.

The SP29 is the largest of the series. They are categorized according to their appearance: Cable Connector, In-line Cable Connector, Rear-nut Mount and 2-hole Flange.
